Jolly Farmer Launch Event Evaluation

1st of June 2019 Jolly Farmer gig in Newton Abbot

In my opinion the gig went ok, I managed to perform 4 songs, 3 my own and 1 a cover of Whats Up by 4 Non Blondes. My release song which I performed first went relatively well it just didn’t sound fully how I would have liked it to be. The guitarist who was scheduled to play with me left early so with that upset I had to manage without him and play the songs in a bare bone cover with just me on guitar and a cajon in the background.
Apart from that it went well and I was happy with the response we got and how the overall gig went.

I also played with 3 other bands Apex , Off centre and Stella Eclipse .
For Stella I played cajon and we did a 45 minute set at the start of the day that went really well and I really enjoyed that . This is because we put so much work into it and it was a good chance to show everyone what we had achieved. And hopefully get some more gigs out of it .
This is our set list for the gig

Shortly after that I played my 4 songs, Heart brake , Lost in you , I never knew and then a cover of Whats up by the 4 non blondes.
Then 3 songs with Apex and 1 song with Off Centre where I played cajon on all of them.
I was very proud of these girls with the apex performance which the members are , Millie, Teagan and Leah because with the 3 songs we had only practiced one time and that was the day before. the songs that we chose to do were called Leave him in the dark – which was an original , Someone else – 303 and Valerie by Amy Winehouse.

In the band Off Centre the members who played were me, Sam Petts and Tom Fraser. The whole band includes Kaci Prescott and Keeleigh Atterbury as well . The song we played was an original by the band and is called Could go in hell.

Overall I thought the day went really well and we also managed to raise 181 pounds and counting for the Rowcroft charity.
The turn out was ok but unfortunately the event landed on the same date as the red arrow day plus other events going on across the bay. So because of this the jolly farmer pub wasn’t bustling with people.

I think that if we were asked to do it again and I was set in charge with putting on the gig I would communicate better with everybody involved including people setting it up and people playing. Because I know that certainly myself and a lot of others were left in the dark with what exactly was going on with the day.
Also I would research first before booking the gig to make sure it wasn’t clashing with any other days so we had a better turn out to display our music too.
I would have publicised it more efficiently to the public through means of facebook , website , flyers and maybe contacting local radio stations and BBC Introducing so we could have had a better turn out for our launch event.

I do think looking back at my performance I should have probably rehearsed more and got a band together to play with me so I could have performed the songs how I envisaged them to sound like. Apart from that I got it done and am mostly happy with the result.

Overall  £520 to put on the event at the jolly farmer.
